First, here are a few questions to help determine the issue. Have you recently visited any websites you don’t typically visit? Have you downloaded any apps recently? What issues is your computer having? Is it simply bogged down and running slow, or are you seeing unexpected charges on your credit card?
One recent client had an extreme case where his computer was controlled by someone without his knowledge. All of his files and data were vulnerable because the unauthorized party had access to the entire computer, resulting in several charges to his bank account. This is also more likely to happen with an older computer especially if you haven’t been keeping up with updates.
Keep in mind that with Windows systems, the new Windows update, including the rollout of the Copilot AI assistant is causing many issues with older systems due to the immense demand for RAM and CPU. I am very familiar with mitigating issues on older systems; however, some of the oldest may not be able to work around the new updates and it may be time to switch operating systems such as Linux which can breathe new life into an old machine. However if you plan on relying on it for many years to come it may be time to consider a new purchase instead.
